Quick Update: Halfway There

Yesterday was my 3rd weigh in of my 6 month supervised diet for my insurance approval.  It went really well.  I lost 2.5 pounds which I'm very pleased with.  My BMI is still at 42.9 and I've decided that I'm going to try to get it right at 40 by the time the 6 months is over.  I think that's the safest bet as far as the insurance stuff goes.  My hubby is doing absolutely fan-fraekin-tastic!  He lost another 16 lbs this month!!!  That brings him to 56 lbs down total...in 3 months...amazing!  He still has a bit to go but I'm still so proud of him!  Dr. Simpson recommended a book to us that he wants us to get going on.  It's called The Beck Diet Solution by Judith Beck.  I guess it's supposed to target the psychological aspect of weight loss.  I was surprised he recommended it as he has written 2 books himself.  You would think he'd recommend those.  Hmmmm...Has anyone read it?

That's great about your husband and I'm sure you are very proud, but doesn't it irritate you a bit how quickly men can lose weight? When my husband and I lost weight together in the past it was nice for the support, but he usually lost 3 times the amount I did and it got a little frustrating. Especially when I was working out and he wasn't. Congrats on your half way point - I'm a month behind ya.

Congrats on the halfway point! Getting your BMI to 40 sounds very reasonable. I had to do that, too - give myself a goal so that I felt like I was still working on this while satisfying this joke insurance crap. It's helped keep me from going completely insane.

Good for your hubby, too! That's awesome. Does this have him on track for where he needs to be for surgery?

halfway there...you're doing a great job. I've never heard of that book, but it's something to look into.

Thanks everyone! Bonnie...it's not irritating at all right now because he's stuck on a liquid diet and I get to eat. LOL! I'm sure if we were both doing this shake thing and he lost so much more, I'd be really irritated but now I'm sure he's irritated when he sees me grab a snack from the fridge.

Yes! the book is very good, my doctors and dietician also recommended it and it was very enlightening. Defiantely puts the idea in your head that the band is only a tool, that the real work is in our minds and behavior. The book taught me how to change my way of thinking about food. Great read and I often refer to it.
You and your DH are doing awesome! Keep up the good work and keep supporting eachother, you are both lucky to have eachother through this process.
