Back to Work & A Crybaby

Hello all!  I am back amongst the living.  I started work again today but I'll be honest... I'm a big ol' cry baby. The pain is mostly gone at this point.  Incisions don't hurt unless I press up against them but they are starting to get itchy.  The pain in my left shoulder is still there.  I even took an extra day off work hoping I could walk it out but it just ain't going anywhere.  Now I'm a little bummed I took the extra day as it did no good and I'm having to suck it up anyway.  Plus my "backup" at work is an idiot and has no idea what she's doing so now I get to redo everything from over the weekend.  Oh well.  Tis life.  I've moved on to "full liquids" so I can have yogurt and creamy soups and what not.  Nice but seriously, I can't wait until I can actually eat something.  Not hungry at all really.  Turns out the doc does put some saline in the band during surgery so I'm hoping that helps with the liquids and bandster hell and all that.  I've got liquids for another 2 weeks before I can move on to mushies...looking forward to eggs and mashed potatoes (not at the same time of course).  Anyway, I know it's actual surgery and all that, but I thought I'd be feeling better by now than I do.  Car rides wreak havoc on me for some reason and the heat (115 here and a little humid which is rare for AZ but it doesn't take much humidity to be miserable at 115) is hitting me really hard right now too.  I went to Sam's Club yesterday just to get some walking in and by the time I was back in the hot car, I was ready for a nap.  Crazy.  Hope everyone's having a good week so far.  Haven't read any blogs since last Tuesday (EEK!) so I've got some catching up to do.  Happy Tuesday!

Congrats on the band! I know the first bit back at work can be tough and you feel pretty weak in the beginning but I promise it will get better. You will be feeling better in no time! Hang in there.

Looks like we had surgery on the same day. I praise you for going back to work already. Very proud of you.

I was going to attempt to go back tomorrow and called up and said may part day on Thursday.

Way to go girl!

Sorry your not back to 100% yet, but it will come. Sounds like you've got a more strict diet than I did - I was 48 hrs clear liquids, 1 week full liquids, 1 week mushies and then moved to full food (within reason). I bet you lose a ton of weight on the liquid diet though. Feel better.

P.S. You are NOT a crybaby!

Sounds like you're right on track. I found that putting a band-aid over a couple of my incisions helped--they were irritated by the rubbing of my shirts when I moved.

I was allowed thin cream of wheat during my "full liquids" stage. I don't normally like it, but it was very satisfying for me during that phase.

Cheers!
Lynda

Hang in there, Manda! It will get a lot better with each passing day. If you have a heating pad, or those self-heating strips they sell at drugstores, that will help with the shoulder pain.

Also, when you're ready for a scar treatment, I wanted to recommend Epidermis (http://www.biodermis.com/scar_products/epi-derm). Seemed to work really well for me. You buy these sheets and cut them, so they last a while.

Hope your day goes well!

Manda, good to hear you back and it sounds like the surgery went well so amen to that. Each day should get a little easier and you'll be back to food in no time. Stay cool too, 115, ugh.

Hi Sweets. I was banded on the 18th. I am so excited to finally meet people who have a close surgery date to mine! Yes, My biggest incision where my port is def is a little bit itchy. My doctor gave me a total of 4 weeks off, although I have to say disability pay sucks. Especially in California! Looks like we are pretty close to each other by states. Anyways, I look forward to your journey and please feel free to stop by my blog and say hi! BTW I am dying on liquids, although I only have 1 week left of this liquid thing. Its 109 here where I live so I feel you on the heat.

I'm hating this AZ heat too...
Hang in there, you are doing great.
