Denied

Received the call from the surgeon's office today.

I was declined because while my BMI is over 40, they require 1 comorbidity and I don't have one.

Ron was approved.

Devestated.

Don't give up. You can always appeal and perhaps the doctor can help you to find a co-morbidity. That sounds absolutely terrible but maybe you can see what would count and then start getting tests done until they find one.

Oh Manda... hang in there - I would absolutely appeal... I didn't have comorbities either, but I was pre-diabetic - maybe your PCP can work with you to appeal??? Hang in there - it will happen.

Don't go down without a fight! Your doctors office can help you appeal and don't give up or get demoralized!

Appeal Appeal Appeal.. I had none of the popular comorbidities (no bp, sleep apena, diabeties, BUT I did have creaky bad knees.. and if I didn't get this weight off I was headed down knee replacement lane.. NOT FUN...
It is interesting that the surgeon office denied you.. usually that is the insurance companies line.. the surgeon is the one that usually helps you with the paper work to get the surgery done.. Find out why the surgeon is refusing.. are you a surgery risk? Something just doesn't sound right.. put together a list of questions and please reach out to us if you need to ask any questions.

I'm so sorry - definitely appeal! Work with your Dr.'s to find a way. I'm shocked they need a co-morbidity for a BMI over 40, that's usually only needed for under 35. Let us know if you need help. Also, LBT and Obesity Help have forums for appeals - you should check it out.

I am with Barbara, appeal and you can always come up with a comorbitity. Sleep apnea, pre-diabetes, bad joint pain, PCOS...there are tons. Get your PCP on board and do some dective work!! Just keep pushing, you will get there.

I'm sorry. Don't take this as a no. I have heard that sometimes they deny the first one because people will give up. Give them HELL!! Ask your doctor to write a personal letter about your attempts in the past. KEEP Appealing!!!

Thinking of you.

Don't give up! Appeal it! I was told by another girl here were I live that they denied her too, but her doctor told her not to worry, that some insurances always deny but once they appeal it they approve it. Best of luck!

Yes, do appeal! From what I understand, denial for the first round is very common! They want you to give up so they don't have to pay out! Don't give up and the best of luck to you. I also did not have any big co-morbidities, but I have bad knees...

UGH! You have got to be kidding! I am sooo sorry to hear this and can only imagine the devastation you are feeling. Please don't give up. Appeal and badger them to all get out. I know others have said this but I gotta say it again. Work with your PCP and surgeon and any other following physician to make this happen. I didn't have any comorbidities either - but my advocate at my bariatric center told me it's surprisingly easy to prove one. This will happen! Hang in there!

((hugs))
