Possible Hobby??

I tried rock climbing yesterday and it was fan-freaking-tastic!  Why did it take me so long to try this?!?!  So...I was a little nervous going..all these old fat girl insecurities were tugging at me..."What if the harness doesn't fit?", "I'm not sure I like the idea of everyone looking at me from below," etc.  But I got over it, I went and loved it!  I can make it to the top on the easy walls without too much of a problem.  Once we moved past those, however, well...that's a different story.  Made it about halfway up a slightly more difficult wall and about 6 feet on an even more difficult one.  LOL.  But it was a lot of fun...a great workout for your arms, your legs and your core.  I learned that I'm really terrible at learning to tie knots but that I caught on to being a belayer (the one who stays on the ground holding the rope so you don't fall) after an initially rocky start.  I can't wait to go again.  The only thing that kind of sucks is that there has to be at least 2 people when we go because there are no belayers just standing around there.  Hmmm...must find someone who's addicted to rock climbing.  Anyway, I can see why people like this so much and then eventually venture outside with it.  I'm pretty sure I'll never be secure enough to ever try this outside (that's REAL falling) but I could do this inside gig all day long.  :)

A little side note here:  I don't say this to discourage ANYONE from going but I wanted to relay my thoughts on when we got there.  Am I the only one who scans a room to see how many fat people there are?  I don't know if that makes me especially weird or what but I find that I do that everywhere I go.  Anyhoo, there was not ONE fat person at the rock gym.  Unlike a regular ol' workout gym where you have people of all shapes, ages and sizes, this rock gym wasn't like that.  There were older people there who put me to shame how they scurried up the walls, but I did not see ONE obese person there.  There were a few who had my kind of build...a little overweight but probably not fat (No, I can't call myself "skinny" or even "normal" yet) and 70 lbs ago, I would've been intimidated as all get out and probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.  This time, the second I walked through the door, all my fat girl insecurities went away and I didn't even get anxious when they pulled out the harnesses.  It fit just fine and actually had to tighten up the waist and legs quite a bit.  Anyway..I took this whole experience to be a giant NSV for me that I went somewhere surrounded by people in pretty good shape and didn't feel like I didn't belong (at least not because of my size...obviously new to the whole rock climbing thing, everyone could tell I was a newbie. LOL).

I think this weekend will be a quiet one...not too much going on.  We may go to a friend's house and just hang out on Saturday (we may not...nothing set it stone).  I've got the September AZ Bandster Lunch on Sunday...I was going to skip it this month but alas...they put it less than a mile from my house!  AND I get to meet Lori (Adorkable) and JennxAZ threatened to cry if I didn't...so what can I say?  I just have to go.

I have a fill scheduled for Monday.  I can't wait!  I'm not excited about seeing the doc and having to talk about my lack of progress but I will take my medicine and hopefully he'll fill me up and we can jump start the weight loss machine again.

Today is MRI and treatment day for my brother-in-law.  Lots of prayers please for a stable MRI.

So that's about all I've got today.  Hope y'all have a fantastic weekend!  And in honor of the beginning of the football season, I give you a Friday Funny:

Ten Thing Thursday 9-6-12

It's been awhile since I've done TTT and I'm not sure that I have 10 things in me today but let's give it a shot anyway.  Thanks Laurabelle!

1.  I'm going rock climbing today!!  It's taken me 2 years to actually do it but BFF and I are heading over once she gets off work today.  I'm excited!  I've heard it's a great workout for your arms..is this true?  If so, I'm totally counting it as a work out this week.

2.  CNN posted this little gem yesterday.  You can be fat AND fit, researchers say.  Basically, it goes into this study they did with a bunch of obese people who work out regularly and came to the conclusion that fat doesn't necessarily equal unhealthy and that exercise can benefit everyone.  Nothing groundbreaking here folks except for the glaring missing link.  They did not include diabetes or prediabetes has a health factor.  Mmmmkay.  Great study.

3.  One thing I did think about this is that it proves my point that exercise also doesn't equal weight loss.  There are those who say they WILL NOT lose weight if they don't exercise.  I don't think that's true.  I think you'll feel better and be more motivated if you exercise so you're more committed and make better choices when you're exercising.  It all still comes down to FOOD.  Just my 2 cents.

4.  I have 5 meetings on my calendar today starting at 7:30 a.m.  Ugh.

5.  Here's another CNN tidbit -  The #NYFW diet: Part of the job?  It's got all your normal "models, bloggers, editor, etc. are all starving themselves for fashion and how this is terrible for you" parts (I'm sorry - one week of fasting or whatever isn't going to kill you...Overreact much?) but my favorite was this part about one fashion editor's tweets:
She followed up with "#PRGirlDiet" regulations: "No non-purpose bread (ie bread baskets, pretzels, croutons) or candy/sugar. Basically anything fun. EXCEPT: frozen yogurt is ok."

The tweet prompted conversation over froyo toppings ("just sprinkles. One layer. No middle/ bottom") and how cutting out bread makes a huge difference ("Soon you'll realize your body hates it").

Bahahahaha!  Froyo with sprinkles is OK??  LOL!  Very random.  But also...what the heck is "non purpose" bread.  Does any bread really serve a purpose???  Fashion people...they make me laugh.

6.  I didn't work out last night.  I was feeling run down and needed some family time.  I don't feel at all guilty about it.  Rock climbing today, gym tomorrow and/or Saturday.  I'm still confident I'll get in at least 3 days this week.

7.  Special HUGE thank you to A.J. over at Wanna Pet My Port? for showing me how to unfollow blogs again.  I did some major housekeeping the last couple days and I can finally start following some new bloggers out there.

8.  This one's going to serve as my check in for yesterday.  It's lookin' good!

List of NO's:
No fast food. Check
No carbonation. Check
No Starbucks.  Check
No pasta, rice or bread. Check
No chocolate, candy or sweets.  Check
No juice, milk or sugary drinks.  Check - I did try unsweetened coconut milk yesterday.  Not a big fan.

List of WILL's:
I will work out at least 4 times this week.  1/4 - Nothing yesterday...but I'll make it.
I will limit the amount of processed foods I eat.  Check
I will go to sleep at a decent hour.  Check
I will be kind to myself.  Check
I WILL stay on plan.  Check!

9.  The AZ bloggers are meeting up on Sunday.  Not sure I can make it this time but I'm gonna try!
10.  Who knew I had 10 things in me today?  Thanks for the comments on my hair yesterday.  I won't be cutting it any time soon, mostly out of laziness and cheapness but I appreciate the suggestion of a long bob and will keep it in mind next time I hit the salon.

Bless Me Blogland...

For I have sinned.  I ate 2 chocolate chip cookies yesterday.  I beat myself up over it, I confessed to Ronnie and then I hit the gym.

So my list:
List of NO's:
No fast food. Check
No carbonation. Check
No Starbucks.  Check
No pasta, rice or bread. Check
No chocolate, candy or sweets.  FAIL - 2 chocolate chip cookies
No juice, milk or sugary drinks.  Check

List of WILL's:
I will work out at least 4 times this week.  1/4
I will limit the amount of processed foods I eat.  Check
I will go to sleep at a decent hour.  Eh
I will be kind to myself.  FAIL - Beat myself up over cookies
I WILL stay on plan.

OK...Not a great start to the week but I'm determined to do better today.  I DID punish myself at the gym yesterday.  I hit my spinning class with Satan and it was awesome.  I'm getting better...able to keep my RPM up most of the time.  I also did my weight training after and as penance for my 2 cookies, I did ab work too.  I was able to move up on my goal of sit ups from 24 to 31 so I'm making progress.  Tonight is running and weights.  I had also set some goals for October 10th..let's review:

By October 10th,

  1. Only allowed to spend $100/week eating outside the house.  We eat out FAR too often.  This includes lunches, coffee, dinners, breakfasts...ALL of it.  Eh.  We're definitely doing better but not quite here yet.
  2. 9 weeks - I'm aiming for 1 lb a week.  That's 9 lbs.  I'm not even going to address this...
    • Subgoal:  Work out at least 3 times a week at the gym.   Check...I have gone at least 3 times 3 weeks in a row.
  3. Get girls signed up for swimming and/or gymnastics.  Working on finding decent places for this.  Still working on this.  Hubby's contract with big company didn't get renewed so not sure I want to pony up money for this now...thinking about it.
  4. Have $200 saved for holiday shopping (that's only $50 per paycheck).  I don't want to be scrambling this year to be able to pay for it.  So far, I've got $50.  *sigh*  It's  a start.
A couple of other things I've been thinking about... I still need one more 5k to hit my 5k goal for the year.  I've got to start looking into that.  I'm also thinking of renaming my blog.  Candyland to Bandland doesn't quite fit anymore...any thoughts?  I had once started another blog called "Deep Fried Pandaisms" and I still kind of like that name.  I'm not moving my blog or starting a new one or anything like that...just thinking of updating the name at the top.  Hmmm...will ponder.  OK...so I took pics of my hair this morning.  I apologize for the angle...I was my own photographer and did it in my cube at work...it's not that different from how it looks any other day....just a little smoother and straighter.
